Project

Fjord Travel Norway is a tour operator that has curated travel experiences for over 20 years. They specialise in tailored multi-day trips across Norway, being trusted by thousands of tourists embarking on once-in-a-lifetime adventures.

Since the early 2000s, minimal upgrades to the digital presence and visual identity have been made, and becoming part of the DSD Explore family initiated an upgrade to the brand. Nonspace was contacted to complete the updated visual identity and delivered a website design to start them on the new digital journey.

Challenge

Among players offering cruise and tour options in Norway, Fjord Travel Norway stands out in that the trips span several days and often entail visits to all corners of the country. Therefore, Fjord Travel Norway delivers travel experiences that are well-considered investments for its customers. The existing customer base mainly consists of middle-aged to retired travellers from the USA, UK, and EU.

While many in the industry are focusing on broadening their audience or lowering the average age of their customer base, Fjord Travel Norway focused its brief on delivering the very best user experience as part of the very best customer experience for its customer base.

With a sophisticated, increasingly digitally native customer base with specific expectations and habits, addressing the specific user needs and preferences and designing a digital brand experience that ensured trustworthiness and richness in exploration were central to our process.

Solution

Building on extensive customer research, we mapped out customer journeys based on Fjord Travel Norway's existing customer personas, ensuring the design addressed specific user considerations. The concrete outcomes of this process were simplifying the visual language and creating intuitive paths for navigating content-rich pages.

As part of elevating Fjord Travel Norway's brand position and customer experience, we also redesigned the logo. We used customer and brand insight to define a logo that could communicate the company's authentic Norwegian heritage and operations while being optimised for the brand's digital nature.

We conducted rigorous usability testing, including guerrilla testing in the field and structured interviews with existing customers. The testing ensured the brand was positioned competitively in a noisy market and functioned seamlessly for the end users.

We worked closely with DSD Explore's in-house development team, Adventure Tech, and the website developers to ensure that the design would be simple to implement to pre-defined technical specifications while maintaining its aesthetic and functional integrity. We ensured that the design was simple to implement by creating tailored hand-off documentation and clear guidance to ease collaboration.

Results

Fjord Travel Norway's new identity and website were launched in August 2024, marking a significant milestone in its digital transformation journey. The revamped brand identity and user-centric website design will continue to inspire tourists to Feel Norway and embark on unforgettable journeys across the country's breathtaking landscapes.
