What Is Brand Strategy?

Brand strategy is the long game. It is the difference between a company that reacts to the market and one that shapes its place in it.
Brand strategy is the strategic framework that defines who a business is, what it believes, and how it behaves toward its market and its people. It is not a logo, a tagline, or a campaign. Those are expressions of strategy, not the strategy itself.
A real brand strategy answers four questions before any design work begins: Why does this brand exist? Who is it for? What makes it different? And how should it show up, consistently, everywhere it appears? Get those right and every later decision becomes easier and more coherent. Get them wrong and you spend years patching inconsistencies no audience asked for.
What brand strategy covers
At Nonspace we build brand strategy with Brandcell®, our registered methodology for developing and operating brands as systems. Brandcell® connects strategy to delivery through four components: Core Culture, Purpose, Mission, and Cultural Impact, so a strategy does not stay on a slide. It becomes something a brand can run on, across strategy, marketing, technology, and experience.
This is the same framework behind the brand platforms we have built for clients like Visit Bergen, Rosenborg Ballklub, and Enova.
